The story begins here.
Ræmona jumped out of bed, her eyes wildly darting from window to window. Outside, it still seemed like a calm, peaceful morning, but the smell of smoke and the frenzied sounds of the animals in the forest gave away the truth.
Something was very wrong.
The princess quickly dressed and left her cabin after grabbing her kitchen knife, the closest thing to a weapon she owned. Looking east toward the Napalasian-Festian border, she could see the dark gray smoke slowly crawling toward her direction. Frightened by the sight of ash falling gently into the creek near her cottage, Ræmona backed away a few steps, then turned and started running toward the only structure she could see, Applewater Castle, the fortress her father defended.
As she ran, the princess heard an unfamiliar sound that seemed to come from some distance behind. She looked back, slowing her pace. In the shade of a large oak tree stood a tall figure wrapped in dark furs, long white hair flowing down wide shoulders. He drew his left arm across his body and touched his shoulder, causing a flash of white light that blinded the young girl for a moment.
Startled, Princess Ræmona gave a yelp, simultaneously tripping over an overgrown root. By the time she glanced back again, the figure was gone. To be continued...
Today is Tuesday, January 31, 2012, and Ray took a day off from school to rest. Go Raymond!

Ray gets a wake up call.
Once there was a princess named Ræmona who lived in a beautiful enchanted forest in the land of Napalasia, filled with rainbow-colored songbirds and sparkling deep blue lakes. Princess Ræmona kept her own cottage in the middle of this forest, for her cruel father, who was feared by all the citizens of the land, banished and hid her there to keep her from getting married. For if the princess were to get married, the jealous king's throne would be in danger.
Princess Ræmona was perfectly content in her tiny cottage in the middle of the forest, nestled snugly between two tiny gurgling creeks. She was only 16 years old, but because of her hard-working nature and kind spirit, the princess was able to tend a garden and live comfortably.
It was the tenth year of the great war between Napalasia and Festix, Napalasia's neighbor with whom she seemed to always be in conflict. Of course, Princess Ræmona never knew about any war, and normally the only troubles she had day-to-day was choosing which beautiful dress to wear in the morning. But this morning, she woke up to the stench of smoke and urgent flap of the fleeing songbirds' wings. To be continued...
Today is Monday, January 30, 2012, and Ray was studying pretty much the whole day. Go Raymond!

29 January 2012
Ray gets re-recycled.
You don't know how many takes he wanted to shoot for this pose. And yes, these past three pictures were taken on our bromantic road trip to San Diego. Today is Sunday, January 29, 2012, and Ray unsuccessfully challenges the sun to "come at me, bro." Go Raymond!
28 January 2012
Ray gets recycled.
I wasn't with Ray today. This is poetically reflected in this picture. How sad. Today is Saturday, January 28, 2012, and I left Ray's heart in San Diego. Go Raymond!
27 January 2012
Ray poses.
On our drive down to San Diego today, we kept the windows down and the music up on the freeway. And the bladder filled. I really needed to go pee. I also really wanted to see the sunset. Ray went with me for both actions. Here Raymond stands, composing a sonnet to the sunset in his mind. Today is Friday, January 27, 2012, and Ray is looking the wrong way. Go Raymond!
26 January 2012
Ray announces a new arrival.
We have a problem here in our tiny room in our tiny Newport Beach apartment. Raymond Lam and I both play games in which interdependence between teammates is a necessary factor in victory. The problem is it's hard to build up that teammate trust when your internet cuts out every three minutes. It usually means death, both for our characters and for our teammates'. We think it is a problem with our router. But don't worry too much! Raymond ordered nice long cables to which we can attach our laptops! Today is Thursday, January 26, 2012, and Ray is about to lay down the line. Go Raymond!
25 January 2012
Ray cuts it short.
Raymond Lam really wants to fall. Today is Wednesday, January 25, 2012, and Ray only has two drops in his bucket list. Go Raymond!
24 January 2012
Ray gives advice.
Sometimes hugging a pillow is the only love you're gonna get that day. Today is Tuesday, January 24, 2012, and Ray can stay in bed for 20 hours a day if he wants to. Go Raymond!
23 January 2012
Ray thinks before he speaks.
In his play Henry V, William Shakespeare writes that "men of few words are the best men." This is certainly true of Raymond "Best Man" Lam. As seen in the previous post, Ray chooses his words carefully. Here he gives the reason for his apparently leisured deliberation. Today is Monday, January 23, 2012, and Ray responds cleverly. Go Raymond!
22 January 2012
Ray speaks to us.
Raymond Lam knows he has fans. In a surprising move, he takes the opportunity to address his fans. Like many of Ray's words, it seems he has been saving up these words of wisdom to make every letter count. We can tell because he ends up repeating two of the words over and over. Today is Sunday, January 22, 2012, and Ray "Same Day" Lam has a nugget of information for his admiring readers. Go Raymond!
21 January 2012
Ray watches watches.
Because of the weekend I took in San Diego, these three videos have been taken all in one night. Raymond Lam woke up from a three-hour nap to indulge himself in a guilty pleasure of his- watching videos of models. Watch models, that is. Deeply engrossed in every angle of these expensive wrist adornments, he drools and gasps in pleasure as the shiny machines purr away. Today is Saturday, January 21, 2012, and Ray likes watch commercial music. Go Raymond!
20 January 2012
Ray wins a date.
Raymond Lam needed a study break, and A Ray A Day Blog is all too happy to provide one. Above is a full-length, uncut interview with the busy hustler. It is worth noting the amazing multi-tasking ability Raymond naturally shows off in this video. Today is Friday, January 20, 2012, and Ray talks about a potential first date. Go Raymond!
19 January 2012
Ray describes a fantasy.
Raymond Lam is not always an action man in his mind. Sometimes, boys just want to be pampered, too. Today is Thursday, January 19, 2012, and Ray discusses a real-life possibility. Go Raymond!
18 January 2012
Ray loves Lance.
Raymond Lam has a confession. Nay, a proclamation. And he's willing to make that proclamation in a library! Today is Wednesday, January 18, 2012, and Ray loves Lance a lot. Go Raymond!
17 January 2012
Ray commentates.
If this computer science thing doesn't pan out, at least it's evident Raymond Lam's got a career in color commentary waiting for him. Today is Tuesday, January 17, 2012, and BOOM! goes the dynamite. Go Raymond!
16 January 2012
Ray depresses me.
Raymond Lam is an apprentice in the game of love. This shy gentleman can rarely maintain eye contact with a lady for more than one second without blushing or looking bashfully aside. I can only imagine the lonesome pinings of such a desperate wolf cub. Today is Monday, January 16, 2011, and Ray reveals a glimpse into the haunted mind of a solo ace. Go Raymond!
15 January 2012
Ray builds a sentry.
Raymond Lam's laptop broke last quarter, so he had to resort to using his apartment-mate's netbook. But coming back from Alameda this past break, Ray brought with him a nice new laptop, so he can be fully productive again! With games like Bastion, Mouse Hunt, Minecraft, and TF2 (pictured), he can be four times as productive as he was in the fall! Today is Sunday, January 15, 2012, and Ray is about to shotgun a spy in the back! Go Raymond!
14 January 2012
Ray snaps a pic.
Today marks the first day I was unable to get a picture of the elusive Raymond Lam. Instead, he took a picture of me. This is Scott Leong, inhaling a gaseous mixture of albuterol and oxygen to aid with his wheezing. Today is Saturday, January 14, 2012, and Ray stayed at the hospital with me for almost six hours. Go Raymond!
13 January 2012
Ray digs deep.
Raymond Lam declared today that he enjoys Minecraft more than Chicken Battle. Or rather, he coughed it out. You see, this adventurer has been spending so much time plumbing the depths of this digital world that he has developed what male models term "the Black Lung." Exploring the hidden lairs with his trusty companion Lanceloter (who for some reason decided to dress himself like a tiger), Raymond knows the deepest friendships are those forged in the shadow of the journey. Today is Friday, January 13, 2012, and Ray helped me with laundry today. Go Raymond!
12 January 2012
Ray likes it a little too matcha.
Somebody hold me. Today is Thursday, January 12, 2012, and Ray seems to enjoy the Matcha Green Tea Blast from Jamba Juice. Go Raymond!
11 January 2012
Ray dissects the game.
Basketball is not a sport for Chinese people. I was never even the second shortest kid in class. Not until puberty, and even then I had to kinda tip-toe on the backs of my shoes to be taller than a few of the Chinese girls. For me, pick-up basketball games consisted of me running up and down the court, praying I would not get the ball passed to me. Raymond Lam often streams this nightmare of my youth to me in ways I can understand. Basketball is one of his passions, and every time I've played with Ray his passion for the sport seeps through faster than the sweat through his shirts. Today is Wednesday, January 11, 2012, and I would like to thank Ray for making this incomprehensible game slightly understandable. Go Raymond!
10 January 2012
Ray recycles.
Good Guy Ray takes the time to recycle, and it pays off. In addition to making our apartment a cleaner, happier place, this man with an incredible jawline also provides for our stomachs. Our breakfast foods of eggs, toast, ham, and cheese are paid for by the efforts of Ray Lam and the alcoholism of everyone else. One 24-pack of Corona can buy us a dozen eggs, so we shamelessly egg on our roommates to shell out their wallets and crack open a beer. It's a scrambled way to think, but the sunny side is our roommates benefit more than omelette-ing on. Today is Tuesday, January 10, 2012, and I hoped you liked my yolks today. Go Raymond!
09 January 2012
Ray returns.
Welcome back, fellow wayfarers and travelers of the series of interconnected tubes we call the World Wide Web. It's been a long three weeks, but our favorite hero is back with a vengeance! Winter quarter has arrived, and with it the arrival of the disgusting sweatpants/UGG "fashion." You can't see it here, but Raymond Lam may have started wearing that combination within our apartment, vaguely citing a certain distaste for "cold feet" and a yearning for "comfort, even at the cost of beauty." Today is Monday, January 9, 2011, and Ray is certainly not that beautiful to behold in this stunning picture. Go Raymond!
